Hickman Woods - Family History

Hickman Lumber is a 4 generation family owned and operated business located in the heart of the Allegheny Plateau in western PA.

Harry Hickman started the sawmill after eloping in the 1930s. They lived in a traveling cabin in the woods as he and his team of horses sawed lumber for mine timbers.

2nd Generation, Larry Hickman and 3rd Generation Dennis Hickman expanded the sawmill, became experts in rift & quarter sawing, and expanded the business creating Allegheny Mountain Hardwood Flooring.

Today 2 of Denny's children, Jake & Jessica, are working for the family business.

Learn about our family's struggles and growth in the history of Hickman Lumber, as well as the business operations. Enjoy some beautiful photography and video from the Appalachian Mountain forests, the production process, and the award winning finished flooring product.
